Lenders must check affordability before lending. Repeat borrowing, rolling loans over, or lending amounts that clearly didn't fit your budget can all be signs the checks weren't done properly.
You complain to the lender first. If they reject your complaint or you don't hear back within eight weeks, you can escalate free of charge to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
A successful complaint can wipe interest, refund charges and remove negative markers from your credit file. There is no need to pay a claims company — the process is free.
